David Gershaw came to Stonewood knowing that he wanted high end, quality products for his waterfront contemporary style home and our team of talented and knowledgeable sales representatives were able to help every step of the way.

After the project was completed, we had an opportunity to receive a guided tour.

From the moment you open the front door you are welcomed by a large wall of windows looking over the granite patio and private dock.

You know that every aspect of this home will be done to perfection. This beautiful home is sprawling with Sawyer Mason’s Arlington, modern wood flooring.

Gershaw exceeds expectations in everything he puts his name on; an entrepreneur in the energy efficient lighting and medical space. In 2009, he started a company that develops and manufactures energy efficient LED lighting for the commercial and industrial space. “Only in the last few years have I become very interested in design and architecture and now I consider it a strong passion of mine. I love reading architectural magazines and books, watching all the fun shows on TV these days about building and of course touring beautiful homes and buildings to get inspiration for my own projects,” says Gershaw.

As the tour went on, Gershaw showcased his office which was decorated with a minimalist and nautical theme. When asked about the inspiration behind certain pieces he said, “When decorating the home, I got really excited about mixing old pieces in with the new. The home is quite modern, so bringing in a few fun nautical antiques, makes it feel like a warm place connected to the local maritime history of the area.”

The foyer showcases a chandelier made from a 1918 restored antique anchor light. The stairs going down to the basement has a red/white/green ship’s navigational light from 1922.  My office on the first floor (which is aptly named “The Engine Room” displays multiple restored outboard boat motors from the early part of the 1900s as well as brass propellers.”

Why Sawyer Mason?

When you come to Stonewood, there are so many products, we often refer to our Harwich showroom as “Disney World” for home improvement. Gershaw, a notably meticulous person, chose some of the best products we offer so we had to ask… why Sawyer Mason?

Contemporary Style Home

“I could not be happier with the stunning Sawyer Mason – Arlington floors that are throughout the entire home. I spent countless hours visiting what felt like every wood floor shop from MA to NH to RI reviewing so many floor options and bringing back samples to review. I must have accumulated 50 samples over a few months, it was crazy! I knew I wanted a linear grain, rift cut style, with warm colors, soft feeling on the feet and a micro-bevel. Width was also important to me since I knew I wanted something that was on the wider end of the spectrum. I had heard nightmares about wider boards cupping or bowing after expansion and contraction from heat and moisture, so an engineered wood product was important. Ultimately Sawyer Mason was the only structured wood flooring I could find that checked all of these boxes. Every time someone enters the home, I get compliments on the floors, so I guess I made the right choice! I used other materials such as the white painted shiplap boards on the walls and ceilings as well as natural stained white oak ceilings beams and stair handrails to tie the whole design together with the floors.”
